2017 Author Resolutions

Each year we set random resolutions as ways to improve ourselves. These improvements could focus on physical goals, mental goals, or personality goals. Every year when someone asks me what my new year’s resolutions are I tell them the usual things we all hear. Be happier, lose weight, be kinder, etc. This year I’m going to step away from the improvements with my personality or appearance as my goal. Instead, I’m going to focus my resolution to my dream career.

My author resolutions are the goals I always say I’m focusing on, but I know I haven’t been putting in the highest effort to truly make these tasks a success. I always play off excuse after excuse as a way to not complete a task or finish a simple job with my writing. Therefore, my author resolution is to put as much work as possible into my latest novel idea. I am going to put every ounce of energy I have into making even more progress than ever before. I will improve my research time, improve the build up of my characters, improve the creation of finer details, and improve my break down of each aspect of my story. Improving every step even a little bit will make me that much better. It’s something I should do with every novel I attempt to write, but I am embarrassed to share the truth. I slacked off as I wrote Curse Under The Moon and accepted it as it was because I wanted to believe it was great the original way I wrote it. Admitting the truth is the first step, right?

I intend to make this year a big year for the author in me. There’s a lot of work ahead of me but I’m super excited!

What are your 2017 Resolutions?
